How Do Film Capacitors Support the "Heart" of New Energy Vehicles?

In the core three-electric system of new energy vehicles, film capacitors are playing an increasingly critical role. As a core passive component in the electric drive system and on-board charger (OBC), they are known as the guardians of the "heart" of new energy vehicles.
The reason film capacitors shine in the new energy vehicle field lies in their unique performance advantages. Compared with traditional electrolytic capacitors, film capacitors offer higher voltage resistance, lower equivalent series resistance (ESR), and superior high-temperature resistance, enabling stable operation in the high-frequency switching environment of motor controllers. Especially in the DC-Link stage, film capacitors play a key role in filtering, energy storage, and suppressing voltage fluctuations, directly affecting the efficiency and reliability of the electric drive system.
In addition, film capacitors also feature excellent self-healing properties. When a local breakdown occurs in the dielectric, the metallized electrode can quickly restore insulation and prevent capacitor failure, providing important protection for the safe operation of new energy vehicles. With the accelerated adoption of 800V high-voltage platforms, the voltage resistance advantage of film capacitors has become even more prominent, making them the preferred choice for many automakers.
According to industry forecasts, as the penetration rate of new energy vehicles continues to rise, the market size of automotive film capacitors is expected to maintain double-digit growth. At present, domestic companies are accelerating technological research and capacity layout, striving to seize a larger share in this golden track.
